Gemini | Original Painting | By Daniel Gunn
Gemini | Original Painting | By Daniel Gunn
Gemini is a portrait of a woman of African descent who is also a citizen of Israel. This work is painted onto newspapers acquired from Israel and adhered to gallery wrapped canvas. Inspiration for this piece comes from the desire to depict a fusion of two cultures - African and Israeli. The piece is named Gemini because it features twin faces of the woman and it’s also a reflection of her dual identity as a Black and Israeli woman. The overall theme deals with a Black woman literally facing herself and struggling to figure out which culture she fits into while dealing with acceptance of herself. If you look closely there is a Gemini zodiac symbol integrated in the artwork.

About The Artwork
Gemini, the sign of the twins, speaks to duality — two natures occupying one body, two truths held at once. The newspaper beneath the paint reinforces that theme: history and image, language and color, the legible and the painted, layered into a single surface.
This is a collector's piece for someone drawn to conceptual depth as much as visual impact.
