Where do we go from here? | Original Painting | By Daniel Gunn
"Where Do We Go From Here?" takes its title from one of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s final and most urgent questions — posed not as despair, but as a demand for continued clarity of purpose after the legal victories of the Civil Rights Movement.
The question has never stopped being relevant. This painting keeps it in the room.

About The Artwork
This piece was inspired by memories of my hometown of Birmingham, Alabama. The abandoned building in the background represents decay and hopelessness. The flying sparrow depicted above the woman's head is a nod to the phrase "keep your eye on the sparrow," which means to be totally focused on your objective. The car in the foreground is a 1984 Chevrolet Caprice Classic, a vehicle that is very popular in the South and was one of the first vehicles owned by my dad when I was a kid. It bears a license plate with Roman numerals that read 1984, which is the year that I was born. The rose growing from concrete is symbolic of the poem "The Rose that Grew from Concrete" by Tupac Shakur. The flower represents achieving dreams and goals despite struggle and conflict faced in a harsh environment.
